tre Tips - Selecting Kitchen Island Pendants

Updated: Jun 28, 2022

Want to transform your kitchen by simply switching out your old kitchen pendants?! Selecting a new pendant can help transform your space and trick your eye to make you feel like you transcended into an entirely new kitchen.

SIZE MATTERS

  • When selecting the diameter of your pendant we say sometimes bigger isn't always better. You want to make sure that you take the size of the space into account. Typically when selecting an island pendant we like to stay in the range of 12"-20" in diameter.

COLOR

  • When adding new pendants to your kitchen to achieve the "WOW factor" you desire, you have to think about color. One easy way is to select a light fixture that is a contrasting color from your upper kitchen cabinets. We don't want those new lights to blend in with the rest of the kitchen (unless you are going for a subtle look).

QUANTITY

  • If you are having trouble deciding on the number of pendants to go above your island; a good rule of thumb is to try to achieve equal spacing between each pendant and from the end of your counter to the closest pendant. This rule generally won't lead you astray!

LOCATION

  • When hanging your pendant lights the bottom of the fixture should sit anywhere between 30"to 36" off of the counter. You'll need to hold the light up to test it out to find what works best for you and your family. It's important to take into consideration where everyone's eye level is while sitting and standing. Don't forget to evaluate if your light fixture has any downward facing bulbs. With exposed bulbs it's always best to raise the pendant an inch or so higher than you may think in order to keep the glare out of your everyones' eyes.
